What we do

Yearling Preparation

At Landsdowne Park, we pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional yearling preparation service. Our focus is firmly on getting the most out of each horse and we opt to limit our draft numbers to ensure that each yearling is handled by knowledgeable staff.

Our experience and attention to detail during the preparation and sales process combine to attain the best possible outcome for both horse and client. We feel regular communication with our clients is essential during this time.

YEARLING PREP PROCESS

We have developed and refined a programme which we believe maximises sale ring success.

Full yearling preparation for the Karaka Yearling Sale commences at the beginning of November. To achieve the best result, we prefer yearlings to arrive at Landsdowne Park as early as possible to allow time for them to settle into their environment.

Throughout prep, yearlings are boxed during the day and turned out at night. Sales yearlings live separately in spacious paddocks, fenced using premium Horserail which is recognised as one of the safest options available.

We place great value in hand walking; yearlings will initially be hand walked in our fully enclosed sand arena, progressing to being walked in other areas of the farm.

We dedicate a substantial amount of time to parade practice and aim to produce a yearling that is as relaxed, confident and impressive as possible when viewed by prospective buyers.

High-quality yearling videos have become an essential marketing tool, especially for the overseas market. We use Ziba Creative for this work.

Throughout the preparation on the farm, clients are updated regularly. On arrival at the sales, we regard it as especially important to communicate effectively with yearling owners.

Spelling & Agistment

Situated on 50 acres, Landsdowne Park offers an ideal environment for horses to grow and develop. Equipped with safe and spacious spelling paddocks, Landsdowne is a perfect location for horses to rest and recuperate between racing preparations.

We cater for all classes of horses, including foals, weanlings, yearlings, mares and racehorses.

What to expect

On arrival and at frequent intervals, condition is assessed and feed requirements are tailored accordingly.

We can also offer box rest and small yard confinement for horses rehabilitating following injury or surgery. As an equine vet, the farms co-owner Jude is happy to liaise with the veterinary surgeon responsible for the horse and can assist with treatments if required. The team have an excellent relationship with all the major veterinary clinics in the area.

Horses are fed Prydes and Fibre Fresh products (plus haylage) and we’re also more than happy to accommodate any specific feed requirements the horse may have.

We believe that communication is paramount so we endeavour to take regular photos/videos of horses to keep owners informed of how their horse is progressing.
